Paulownia Hardwood
Afforest group supply a variety of sustainably harvested dimensional hardwoods. All our timber is grown locally and milled from plantations we manage throughout NSW.
Afforest group are pioneering the introduction of a little known hardwood timber to the Australian market known as Paulownia or Empress Wood.
Paulownia timber, often referred to in the industry as the 'Aluminium of Timbers', is a versatile hardwood derived from the fast-growing Paulownia tree. Its unique properties include an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior dimensional stability, leading to minimal shrinkage, twist, and warping.
As a result, it is highly sought after in applications ranging from boat building and surfboard crafting to fine furniture making and architectural moulding.
Paulownia timber is also celebrated for its high rot resistance, low thermal conductivity, and excellent acoustic properties, which make it an ideal choice for musical instrument production. With its pale blonde colouring, straight grain, and silky texture, Paulownia offers unique aesthetics and is easily workable, being able to take on stains, paints, and clear finishes remarkably well.
